About Artwork: (1905) "A portrait of young Alan Harriman (1898 or 1899–1928) in riding outfit was commissioned by the boy's father, Joseph W. Harriman, the founder and onetime president of the Harriman National Bank and Trust Company. Alan's mother was the former Augusta Barney. They lived in Brookville, New York, and Bernardsville, New Jersey. Alan later served with the Red Cross in France in 1917 and the American Naval Aviation Service in 1918. He and his wife, Marie Brook, whom he married on April 21, 1924, lived in Great Neck, New York, and had two children, David and Marie. Alan Harriman owned and ran an automobile agency in Babylon, New York. On January 6, 1928, he was involved in an automobile accident, sustaining injuries that resulted in his death two days later." - (The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York)
