About Artwork: (1918–19) "In late 1918 Kirchner moved to a rented farmhouse near Frauenkirch, a few miles from Davos in Switzerland. Upon moving, a period of artistic and physical recovery began for the artist. His experience in World War I had precipitated a deep and long lasting crisis. Cyclamen belongs to a series of still lifes that attest to the artist’s newfound serenity. The study of mountains on the verso is related to the painting Winter Landscape in Moonlight (1919, Detroit Institute of Arts).
