Going Home
Artist: Fritz von Uhde (German, 1848–1911)
Original Dimensions: 30 7/8" x 39 1/4"
Location: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York
About Artwork: (ca. 1889) "This sunset scene unfolds in the Dachauer Moos, a marshland north of Munich that maintained its reputation for wild and elemental terrain, even as it was transformed into farms. The region proved to be fertile ground for Uhde and other German artists seeking a direct and vigorous approach to depicting nature. Going Home inaugurated a group of paintings showing peasants traveling on foot through the fields, in which the imagery of rural life acquires a spiritual aspect." - (The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York)
