About Artwork: (1922) "Painted only three years before Metcalf's death, this autumnal landscape depicts the hilly farmland around Springfield, Vermont. A late example of Metcalf's work in the Impressionist mode, it is brightly colored, with dry, broken brushstrokes which often expose the bare canvas.
