About Artwork: (1862–63) "An entry in Mount’s diary from November 1862 records that he began a painting of houses in Setauket, New York. The artist depicted the property of the extended Brewster family from the window of his portable studio, a specially made room on wheels. His brother Robert Nelson Mount and sister-in-law Mary Brewster resided in the far house. The nearer saltbox farm house, dating to 1665, was occupied by generations of Brewsters, both White families and free Black families of the same name who labored for them.
