Location: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York
About Artwork: (1817) "Five years after winning the Prix de Rome for history painting, Pallière made this highly finished study for an altarpiece in Santissima Trinità dei Monti, adjacent to the French Academy’s headquarters at the Villa Medici. Other recent Rome Prize winners, including Henri Joseph de Forestier, Jean-Baptiste-Auguste Vinchon, and J. A. D. Ingres, also contributed paintings, but Pallière’s is the only one that remains in place today. The church’s renovation was intended to reflect the Bourbon monarchy’s commitment to the Roman Catholic church following neglect and abuse during the Napoleonic era." - (The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York)
