About Artwork: (1869) "The North Reformed Dutch Church was designed in 1767 and dedicated in 1769. Henry painted this picture in 1869, probably in commemoration of the centennial of the church's dedication. He may have based the painting upon a photograph or an engraving. Maria DeWitt Jesup, the donor of this painting, specified that this work be listed in Museum records as coming from the collection of her husband, who predeceased her. It is very likely, however, that this painting was originally owned by Dr. Thomas DeWitt, her father, who had served as minister at the old North Dutch Church from 1827 to 1874." - (The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York)
